Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Wings

  • 2 pounds fresh or thawed chicken wings with skin on

Seasoning & Coating

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar (for extra caramelization and sweetness)

BBQ Sauce

  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken Wings: Pat the chicken wings dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture for crispier skin. Place them in a large bowl ready for seasoning.
  2. Season the Wings: Drizzle olive oil over the wings and toss to coat evenly. Sprinkle garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper on all sides. Toss thoroughly to ensure each wing is well seasoned. If desired, add honey or brown sugar for extra sweetness and caramelization.
  3. Arrange on a Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top. Arrange the wings skin-side up on the rack, spacing them out to allow air circulation and prevent steaming.
  4. Bake the Wings: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake the wings for 35-40 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until the skin is golden brown, crispy, and the internal temperature reaches at least 165°F (74°C).
  5. Toss in BBQ Sauce: Remove the hot wings and transfer them to a large bowl. Pour BBQ sauce over the wings and toss until fully coated. Return wings to the wire rack and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes to set and caramelize the sauce.
  6. Serve and Enjoy: Remove wings from the oven, let cool slightly, then serve immediately with your favorite sides or garnishes to enjoy perfectly baked BBQ chicken wings.

Notes

  • Dry your wings thoroughly to achieve the best crispy skin.
  • Using a wire rack allows hot air to circulate evenly, preventing soggy wings.
  • Flip wings halfway through baking for even browning.
  • Bake wings twice—before and after saucing—to lock in flavor and enhance stickiness.
  • Adjust cooking time if your wings are larger for complete doneness.
