Ingredients

Scale

Protein and Seasoning

  • 1 lb ground beef (lean or regular)
  • 1 packet taco seasoning or 2 tablespoons homemade taco seasoning
  • 1/4 cup water (for simmering beef)

Wrap Components

  • 4 large flour tortillas
  • 4 small corn tostadas or a handful of tortilla chips
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (sharp cheddar or Mexican blend)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • 1/2 cup refried beans (optional)

Cooking and Additional

  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil or butter (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef Filling: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until fully browned and crumbly. Drain excess fat, then stir in taco seasoning with a splash of water. Simmer until the mixture is thick and flavorful.
  2. Warm the Tortillas and Beans: Warm your large flour tortillas on a dry skillet or microwave briefly to make them pliable. If using refried beans, warm them up for easy spreading.
  3. Assemble the Crunch Wrap: Lay a large flour tortilla flat. Spread a spoonful of refried beans in the center (if using), add a generous scoop of seasoned beef, then a layer of shredded cheese. Place a crispy tostada or a small handful of tortilla chips on top for crunch.
  4. Add Fresh Toppings: Add a dollop of sour cream, then sprinkle chopped lettuce and diced tomatoes on top of the crisp layer.
  5. Fold and Seal: Fold the edges of the tortilla up evenly towards the center to seal the wrap. Tuck and pinch to keep the wrap tight and maintain the layered look.
  6. Cook Until Golden and Crispy: Heat a skillet over medium heat with oil or butter. Place the folded wrap seam side down first. Cook each side for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown, flipping carefully to keep it closed and crispy.

Notes

  • Keep Tortillas Warm: Warm tortillas make folding easier and prevent cracking.
  • Use a Pressed Tostada: For best crunch, use store-bought tostadas or bake your own corn tortillas until crisp.
  • Seal Tightly: Pinch seams well to keep fillings from leaking during frying.
  • Medium Heat Cooking: Cook on medium to avoid burning outside while allowing cheese inside to melt.
  • Customize Fillings: Add avocado slices or black olives for extra flavor and texture.
