Ingredients

Scale

Pastry & Base

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry (thawed)

Filling

  • 1 cup fresh spinach (sautéed and well-drained)
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Finishing

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Thaw and Prepare Puff Pastry: Thaw puff pastry sheets according to package instructions until soft but still cool, making them easier to roll and cut without sticking or tearing.
  2. Sauté the Spinach: In a skillet over medium heat, sauté fresh spinach with a little olive oil just until wilted. Drain thoroughly to remove excess moisture, ensuring the twists remain crisp.
  3. Combine Cheese and Seasonings: In a bowl, mix grated Parmesan cheese with garlic powder and optional red pepper flakes to create a flavorful cheese mixture.
  4. Assemble the Twists: Roll out the puff pastry onto a clean surface. Spread an even thin layer of the cheese mixture over the pastry. Scatter sautéed spinach evenly on top. Fold the pastry and cut into strips. Twist each strip gently to form the twists and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Egg Wash and Bake: Beat the egg with water to make an egg wash. Brush each twist with the egg wash to achieve a shiny, golden crust. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15–20 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.

Notes

  • Use cold puff pastry and work quickly for better rise and flakiness.
  • Remove as much moisture as possible from the spinach to prevent sogginess.
  • Spread the cheese and spinach mixture evenly for balanced flavor in every bite.
  • Twist strips gently to avoid tearing the delicate pastry.
  • Monitor baking closely as oven temperatures vary to prevent burning.
